So, before we dive into 3 Unique Tips to Help with Arthritis and Chronis Pain, let’s understand what arthritis and chronic pain have in common and, then, what we can do about it.

All pain & discomfort, no matter the source or label it’s been given, is rooted in the exact same place - Inflammation. That’s right…Inflammation.

It doesn’t matter if it’s Osteoarthritis (life and old injuries causing wear & tear on your joints) or Rheumatoid Arthritis (an auto-immune condition where your own body attacks your joints) or Degenerative Changes (loss of cartilage, joint space or disc height) or Bone Spurs or Scar Tissue from old injuries, all pain ultimately boils down to the same source - Inflammation.

In fact, all health care professionals are attempting to do when helping you reduce your pain is decrease inflammation. We all have the exact same end goal in mind no matter the approach!

Your Medical Doctor, for example, will prescribe anti-inflammatory medications (Ibuprofen or Aleve) or will order an injection (usually a potent anti-inflammatory steroid called Cortisone) for the joint to reduce inflammation, thereby reducing pain.

Chiropractic Care seeks to reduce inflammation by restoring normal alignment and flexibility in joint complexes, thereby improving biomechanics to reduce joint irritation & inflammation.

Massage Therapy also focuses on reducing inflammation by reducing muscle tightness, increasing circulation, releasing toxins from the muscle tissue, thereby reducing inflammation.

Physical Therapy takes the approach thru exercises, stretches, and modalities to reduce inflammation.

But NO MATTER, all approaches are seeking the same end-point à decreased inflammation.

So, knowing this, what are some things we can do to reduce & manage inflammation on our own?

Traditional Approaches for Arthritis and Chronic Pain

Here are some things you’re probably already familiar with:

Over-the-counter Medication such as Ibuprofen or Aleve
Liniments such as Biofreeze, Aspercreme, & BenGay
Joint Braces & Compression sleeves
Icing
Light exercises such as swimming, walking, & stretching
Supplements such as Glucosamine & Chondroitin, Turmeric, & Curcumin
And the age old remedy – Epsom Salts (you haven’t forgotten about Epsom salts have you?)
