Have you ever wondered why there are some people who have always seemed so healthy & strong, but they just don’t seem to be aging very well or they end up with diagnoses like Osteopenia or Osteoporosis?

This is a puzzle a lot of older people struggle with and the answer may actually lie in a little-known concept called Peak Bone Mass...and Peak Bone Mass is a young person's game. Read on to learn more...

When you are young, brittle bones may be the furthest thing from your mind. 

However, your teens and 20s are important times to be building healthy bones for later in life. 

Your risk of developing osteoporosis and other physical challenges is in-part determined by your lifestyle 30 or more years before the effects of the diseases show up.

Bone is living tissue that changes constantly throughout your life, with bits of old bone being removed and replaced by new bone. 

You can think of bone as a bank account, where you make “deposits” and “withdrawals” of bone tissue. 🏦🏧💲

🧒 During childhood and adolescence, it’s easy to grow more bone than what you naturally lose, so the skeleton grows in both size and density. 

Up to 90 percent of peak bone mass is acquired by age 18 in girls and age 20 in boys, which makes youth the best time to “invest” in your bone health bank account! 

 The amount of bone tissue in the skeleton, known as bone mass, can keep growing until around age 30. 

After the age of 30, bones have reached their maximum strength and density. This is known as Peak Bone Mass.

💗 In women, the first few years after menopause brings about rapid bone loss, a “withdrawal” from the bone bank account, which then slows but continues throughout the postmenopausal years. 
💙 Men will also experience a decline in bone mass with age, albeit typically slower. This loss of bone mass can lead to low bone density (osteopenia) and ultimately a diagnosis of osteoporosis. 
💡 Given the knowledge that peak bone density is reached in the first 25-30 years of life, it makes sense to pay more attention to those factors that affect peak bone mass!
